The phone is a little large and heavy (but that was expected), but until now (2 weeks old) it works very well.
Great product, a big step up from the Fairphone 3+ I had previously. I am very happy to support the change fairphone is bringing to the market!
Overall, I am not unhappy with the purchase, but I am not happy either. I was disappointed to find that the price is too high compared to the quality and performance of the phone. Furthermore, I thought I would buy a phone produced in a country giving me certainty about the high environmental and social standards and criteria of production. Once I received the product, I discovered that it is only designed in the Netherlands but it is manufactured and assembled in China, just like any other phone. It is only more expensive than the others having the same or better quality. So, how can I be sure my fairphone is actually "fair"? Finally, the battery lasts very little, even when the phone has not been used much. Moreover, it does not charge with all chargers with a USB plug. I had not purchased the charger when ordering the fairphone based on the principle and message appearing on the screen saying I could use my old charger. I had to try three chargers (all of which work with other phones) before I was able to charge the battery.
After adventures with Xiaomi where I had a problem to exchange the parts, even battery and at the end it was impossible to flash my old phone as they required to do that using the tool which stopped to work prior to activation. I am happy to own the phone which gives you the guarantee for both software and hardware long term maintenance.
I've had this phone for two weeks now and am very satisfied. It is a bit heavier than the One Plus I had before, but other than that it seems to do everything I want it to do.
Easy to use, good quality, no complaints so far. The only brand in the market providing modularity, ethically sourced materials and (at least) 7 years of updates - these were my main reasons for choosing Fairphone.
i've had the Fairphone3 for almost 5 Years, this one is almost twice as expensive but not twice as good :( bit of a letdown, really. I'ts not as fast as the old secon-hand-phone i had prior to this and it gets really hot while navigating or connected to a bluetooth device. This shouldn't be happening after 2 weeks of use. The short battery life is connected to this overheating issue, imo.
Honest review. Obviously the idea behind this product is fantastic, and we all want it to work. And it does work! BUT don't expect the smoothest software and don't expect amazing photos. It does the job, it works and the battery is reasonably large. I have it from little time, I am still setting it up to fit my needs, but it seems to me like a fiat panda, with optionals. Its stubborn, it makes you swear sometimes, but it will work forever.
The phone is absolutly perfect. I can't say any bad from it. I found some menu in the OS where is the translation is not complet. But that's all. I think the OS is fast and fluent. The hardware is fairly strong for daily use. If you don't want to play on the phone, but if you need a reliable product the Fairphone is the best choose.
A very good phone! In spite of price, the global value is high! Better to spend more money than more human rights and environment!
Excellent build quality, very resistant to falls, which I much appreciate. Speakers and vibration motor are low quality. Coming from iOS, i find Android unrefined. Most annoyingly, double tap to wake up doesn't work most of the time. Anyway, I was happy to find that it supports the iOS gesture (swipe from the bottom) for multitasking and going to the home screen.
Nice to have an ultimate generation mobile phone that has an ethical background.
Product seems of good physical quality but the software implementation has significant issues: - Immediately kills background apps making much of the phone functionality unusable, Can't use live chats and leave to get info, Can't run music in the background, can't use a password manager, Can't get a security code for a login,... - First bit of slight exposure to moisture and the charging port stops working on what might be a sensor or a software problem. - Follow up on this apparently any exposure to any moisture (not talking submerged but a slightly damp pocket) is warrantee voiding. Rendering their long warranty period useless if they aren't willing to support a phone that experiences commonplace events. DO NOT BUY, They claim to be fair but are clearly too small to support the warranty they offer.

I love jack 3.5 but..
Solid device, snappy in day to day use. Most important factors for me were a replaceable battery and ability to flash CalyxOS on it. Please keep the ability to unlock the bootloader in future Fairphones.

Repairable, long term software support, equitable human rights record and environmental best practice. More expensive than a premium quality refurb, but none of the baggage of planned obsolescence. FP5 is responsive, has a nice display, and far better camera quality than my old FP3+. First FP I've owned that really feels up to date. If you don't want to compromise on your ethics OR on the quality of your phone, this is the one for you.
It was fonctionning good, until it suddenly stopped and it was not possible to reuse it. I sent a message to get help but I did'nt receive any... The battery life was not long: not more than one day. I think it is a lot of money for something that isn't working...

I purchased a mobile phone from Fairphone, but they never delivered the package. Unfortunately, I mistyped the shipping address during checkout. Realizing this almost immediately, I contacted Fairphone by email to provide the correct address, hoping they would correct it before shipping. However, despite my efforts, they never replied. I contacted them three times: the first time, less than 10 minutes after placing the order; the second, when UPS marked the package as received; and the third, when UPS marked it as delivered. It has been 15 days, and I still haven’t received a single response from their customer service team. To make matters worse, the automatic response from their support email states that they take 8 to 10 days to reply. This is completely illogical, especially since their own support page recommends contacting them immediately in cases of shipping address errors. If they’re going to take 8 to 10 days to reply, it's pointless to reach out at all. This lack of communication is unacceptable. I was really looking forward to receiving my Fairphone, but this experience has been nothing short of frustrating. I expected better from a company that claims to prioritize ethical practices.

Stuff is made for lifetime
Great quality. Coming from Fairphone 3, which already has a decent camera, I'm especially enamored with the new camera. Good value for money, too. Of course it's a bit more expensive than the non-fair equivalents, but not too much. The default screen brightness is a bit too bright, which shortens the battery stamina unnecessarily, but you can easily adjust it.

Mostly a good phone that fills its purpose very well. I value the expected lifetime as well as everything that makes this Fair. However, there are some annoyances that keep disturbing the user experience daily. The battery capacity in this phone should be planned assuming that the user has the lifetime-extending settings on, and thus wants to keep the charge level between 30-80 %. Also, even with almost all optional battery-draining features off - like Bluetooth and location - the battery is drained surprisingly quickly compared to phones from other vendors like my work phone. The charging indicator should show an estimate to charge to 80 % instead of full when charging has been limited to that level. There's something strange with Bluetooth connectivity suddenly being cut when listening to podcasts or music. Some podcast apps also seem to forget their previous state, unlike in other phones, which means that I need to browse back to the correct episode and set again playback speed etc. Apparently apps also get removed from the multitasking view automatically, which in the case of some apps causes them to lose their state and means more trouble for me. I'd prefer to handle this manually, keeping certain apps constantly open there. The screen brightness option doesn't seem to learn anything despite promises, but this was the same with my previous Android phone. The phone keeps setting it way too bright, and I have to constantly adjust the slider to make it more dim.
It's the first new Android phone for me and I am moving from an older Android on Blackberry Key 2. I am obviously extremely enthusiastic about having a repairable phone with attention to ethical supply chain. As far as experience goes. I was able to install an alternative Google-less operating system on it with ease and it's generally running very smoothly. My obvious issues with the phone is that in comparison to my previous models it's heavy and bulky, but I believe this to be true for most Android phones today. It's perhaps unfair to downgrade rating for this, but I also want to be vocal about the direction Android is taking. My wife has an IPhone and it's clearly a much more sensible size and weight. And my biggest issue is the lack of physical keyboard. Two weeks in on the touch keyboard and I am really doing my best not to think of it too much and keep on typing, but I find this glass experience very inconvenient. Again, I realise that it's the entire industry which went this way, but I really don't understand why. Capacitance keyboard that BB had were absolutely amazing devices: precise, quick and stopping you from smearing over your screen.

Good phone. Sometimes experience some random restarts. But other than that it works well.
The phone looks and feels fine, has all the things on board that one needs. Camera is sometimes weird, doesnt take pics in whatsapp for instance or leaves camera modus when rotating phone to landscape. There are other tiny glitches that are a bit annoying when coming from a unfair phone but I tell myself that I did not bought this phone because of its excellent performance but of its merits as a contribution to better environment and human working conditions. The battery however is absolutely below standards, doesn't even last a day, and when using bluetooth, not even 2/3 of a day. Now you do get a free extra battery with the phone but you can only charge that battery...in the phone. I now bought a light power bank to bridge this problem but for a 800euro phone I think this is not an ok issue.
Ethical, works well, lasts ages

With Default Zusage and all connectivity on, battery lasts a day, which ist ok, but not very impressive. However, this was expected and the battery lasts impressively longer (approx three days) when gnss services are deactivated when not needed.
This phone is not industry standard. But it is as close as Fairphone can get. The camera is okay, the battery lasts more than one day in normal use and it has no obvious flaws like Fairphone 2 and 3 that I also had for quite some time.
I have had the phone for less than a week and there's a strange shadow on the screen. Please help! How do I get rid of it?

A very good product, fast, stable, pleasant to use and use every day, cameras that take really great photos. The interchangeability of components is another advantage. To be honest, only the battery/optimization for it needs improvement.
The best phone out there
I like the fairphone products and the idea of lasting products. With the fairphone5 i am realy satisfied. It is again easy to handle, and offers everything i liked to use. Only the battery could be a bit stronger. At a day with a lot of use it was completly empty. Think i used the mobile phone a lot that day, but within normal use.
I can't judge the battery life yet.

After first 2 weeks of use I am still impressed. The only thing I find lacking compared to previous cell phones is the lack of an option to arrange the apps in the basic menu.
I bought it as a gift for my whife and she absolutely loves it. My next phone will also be a Fairphone🙂

Phone is very nicely made. And build quality is also high. I can also say that that supports from company for example how to transfer data from other phone is great. And if OS support is for 10 years than it's great.
The build quality of the phone is good and the camera and processor are good, so much better than the Fairphone 3 which is what I just had before. It seems to be a pretty modern up-to-date design. The only thing I'm not so keen on, is that the battery life only lasts a day (unless I'm very frugal). I was hoping for 2 days.
Very happy with performance and battery life, although I understand that there is better on both for a lower price on the market. That suits my use cases and I'm confident that I'll be able to keep this device for many years, which effectively increases its value for money.

There is a persistent issue with Whatsapp voice calls: They are on loudspeaker by default. Lots of Fairphone users have raised this issue - doesn't seem to be resolved thus far.

Dead on Arrival, does not charge "dirt/liquid found in USB" there was nothing, Various cables and chargers ..nothing...and this quality issue is known since April and yet the customers were told to keep checking and replacing parts ... Not worth the trouble. So sad...

Happy with this sustainable phone
I don't think a normal user needs 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of disk but I get the intention of a powerfull hardware that should hold up for many years.
In terms of immediate absolute value, you are getting less than your money's worth. What you do get with this phone, is a warranty, extnedability in the future, easiness of repair and a (more) ethical consumption. Well worth it in my opinion, but not captured from the suggested metrics.

The audio quality during video recordings or video calls is lacking. The rest is pretty solid, great value for the cost especially knowing I'm supporting a great cause.
Love the phone, response time is much better than the 3+, the visuals are awesome, need to charge it once every 2 days if I don't play more than 2h total on it with games like Monster hunter now, honkai or wuthering waves. The pictures look great, I like to use whiteboard for notes and it captures even the smallest symbols. The speakers are awesome for YouTube, you will be able to tell on phone calls who has a phone with good mic and who doesn't tho. I like chunky phones like the 3+ but the 5 fits better in my hands.
Very happy with my purchase. The cameras are very good and while better battery life may be available, it's a big improvement on my previous six year old phone. Apps work smoothly and well. I like the fingerprint reader.
A battery charge lasts surprisingly long.
After reading some reviews online, I was not sure how well this product would perform but I am very happy with the quantity and all functionalities.
I was very pleasantly surprised - a lot of reviews online seemed to conclude the phone was very "average" and not the best value for money. Firstly, I think they were looking for value in the wrong place - the repairable design and innovative environmental effort that's gone into this phone provides plenty of value. And secondly, I came to this phone from a 7 year-old OnePlus 5T (mainly due to no availability of decent-quality replacement parts). So for me this is a _very_ decent step up. No regrets whatsoever.
Perfectly good mobile phone for those who don't need a gamer super smart phone and want to do something for the environment and the people who produced the mobile. Quick good service. Not cheap, but not too expensive either.
From a technical point of view, this phone has not the best battery life, the best processor or the best CMOS sensors. But, it is easy to install a google-free custom rom, you can also charge the battery with a slow charger and thus with bike dynamo and you get spare parts at a fair price.
Nice phone & company has good ethics. I feel it's worth the wait to save up for. Larger than my last phone so now I need to save up for a bigger handbag!
A big upgrade from Fairphone 3+ which I previously used, especially considering the camera. But some problems they've had with the earlier models still apply, for example the very dull/saturated (imagine stong but still grey-ish) colours on the screen, makings some cutesy phone games not as cute (supposed to be lighter/more pastel-y). But apart from that it seems good so far, except some camera functions like the countdown for selfies are yet to be found.. I've only used it for a week though.
Awesome cellphone
I have been using my phone for little over a week and it's such an upgrade from my 5 year old Xperia! Easy to use, responsive, pin-sharp screen, and with the prospect of user-serviceable components when that eventually becomes necessary meaning a longer life than cheaper models. Very happy with it.
Battery life is poor, much worse than any previous phone I've had even much cheaper ones. Really disappointed with the phone quality overall and worried that it won't last longer if it's already disappointing. This is compared to phones under £150 so for the price I expected the phone to at least match that quality (taking into account that I was happy to pay more for conflict free and more ethical materials/processes as well fair pay for workers) .
Nothing bad to say. I like it a lot. It looks nice, it works fast, battery is good, camera makes nice pictures. And it also can be used as phone xD For now I'm very pleased with it, money well spend.

fantastic phone
Amazing product with great picture quality, but might be a little bit heavy on the battery usage. When you get it, you have to play around with settings for sound, vibration, app notifications etc. to figure out what is best for you, so you are not bothered by phone or miss anything important. It would be tiny bit easier to use without case if the back cover would be flat with cameras area(whole phone would be thicker which is ok). I am satisfied with purchase experience(fast shipping) and product after 1.5 months of usage. It was easier purchase decision with promotion of 100€ for spare parts, since I spent 150€ on previous phone 5 years ago(and then used it daily almost as long).
Great device, only downside is camera quality. It's fine but not as good as samsung or apple.

The main supplier of the Fairphone 5 meets the strictest standards for safe and decent working conditions (SA8000& ISO45001). To make a lasting impact, our approach puts workers and their needs first. Focusing on paying living wages to increase income, and on strengthening worker voice and representation, as well as health& safety.
We’ve expanded our living wage program to also increase the wages of the people who make the components that go into your phone, like the battery or the vibration motor. Supporting our suppliers and their component suppliers to understand the needs of workers. Ultimately, cherishing the many hands that made your phone.

Climate conscious is an approach to avoiding and reducing carbon emissions by designing products that last, working with our suppliers to reduce our products’ footprint and reinvesting in the planet and projects that put people first. How do we do this?
By designing to last
Let’s face it, the production of a new phone emits a lot of CO2. Which is why we build all our devices - including your Fairphone 5 - to last. Designing for longevity means making a device that’s both modular and well-supported. With a long 5-year hardware warranty and an even longer 8-year software support, it’s easier to hold onto your phone for longer. To get better every time, we’re assessing emissions and other environmental impacts of our products in publicly available life cycle assessments. You can find all finished assessments here.
By working with our suppliers
We’ve partnered with our final assembly and battery manufacturers to implement renewable energy for the production of Fairphone 5. But this is not where we stop. By working with our suppliers to set climate targets we stimulate carbon reduction in our supply chain - beyond Fairphone products. We also stepped up our materials sourcing with your Fairphone 5. Inside your phone is recycled aluminum, magnesium, rare earth elements, tin, nickel, zinc, copper, plastics, and for the first time, indium.
By investing in the planet
Through investing in Gold Standard certified projects in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, we’re helping to reduce CO2 emissions while contributing to community-based activities. Our contribution matches the remaining emissions of Fairphone 5’s lifecycle.
